How it all started.
I wrote the title and now I can't exactly remember how it happened. I think I was reading Runner's World - this article - http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-243-297--12912-0,00.html about a dad's 70th marathon and a son's first. I had asked dad if he wanted to take a trip somewhere for his 60th and he lamented his lack of vacation time. We wouldn't be able to go very far...then the topic of doing a marathon came up and he loved it. We decided on the Nova Scotia one on 6/21/09, which was 29 weeks away. Most beginner marathon training schedules are based on 26 weeks so I am confident we have plenty of time to train successfully. Dad was so excited and wanted to get others involved. So we wrangled Ellen & Meghan into commiting to do the half-marathon. Josh & Nick are going to be uber competitive brothers and do the full one. Min & Ken are also a go! We will take the CAT from Portland and drive across Nova Scotia to the area of the race. We are hoping to find a big house to rent to bring Nana, mom, etc. What a great way to celebrate a big milestone in life.
